In addition to the specific knife and bearing products, the possible uses for SM-100 are near limitless. While there are a number of projects that we’re not permitted to discuss, we’ll try to give a flavor here of some other things we’re up to.
We’re working with the military and several firearm manufacturers investigating SM-100 for barrel and wear components. All we can show here is a barrel preform for a large military firearm.
Advantages that SM-100 has in this area are corrosion and wear/abrasion resistance, lightweight, and an improved natural frequency for higher internal shock absorption. Imagine being able to ship weapons across the ocean with no concern about the salty environment wrecking havoc on the weapons.
Several motorsports teams are investigating the use of SM-100 for critical components that are currently on the ragged edge of wearing out. In addition to the improved wear resistance, SM-100 also has the benefit of being approximately 18% less dense than steel, and in a sport where ounces matter, this is a big deal.
Oil and Gas Exploration
SM-100 is being investigated for various applications in these extremely harsh environments where failures can quickly rack up millions of dollars of costs and lost opportunities.
Valve Components and Valve Bodies
A major valve manufacture is investigating using SM-100 for various valve components in order to improve the life of the components which wear out due to the abrasive nature of the contained fluid.
